On the stand behind us at the Scottish Wedding Show was a lovely exhibit for The Tartan Rose Wedding Florist. It was great to meet Fiona and her sister.

What a brilliant surprise at the end of the day on Sunday when she gave me one of her bouquets. Fantastic roses. They were a bit battered by the time I got them home with all the exhibition stuff but I managed to get a few shots of them.

post wedding show thoughts

We survived the weekend at the Scottish Wedding Show; ) No question it was very very tiring but we got to meet some fantastic couples and heard about some really exciting wedding plans.

We are now following up the contacts we made and look forward to talking to people in more detail.

One thing that really struck me as we talked to the couples was how many people haven't really thought about what they want from their photographer. we spoke alot about this with people and I'm going to do a separate blog post about that...

Some nice things people said, as well as that they really liked our work, was that they appreciated us not doing a 'hard sell' and that they found what we said useful in helping them decide what they wanted.

I've put up a few pics of the stand. We didn't go for a really corporate look because we felt it was important that people saw our photographs as they would in their own home.

I would like to thank Enid Reid for providing a lovely floral arrangement for our stand. Her flower shop is in the next street to ours and her work for weddings is fantastic.

We also got to meet some other Glasgow photographers, transport providers and make some useful connections for the future.

We will definitely be attending the next show as well so see you there...

Scottish Wedding Show

We've been very busy preparing for the Scottish Wedding Show on the 19th and 20th September where we are exhibiting for the first time. Come along and see us on stand 410D. We've been getting all of our latest wedding albums ready in time to show and producing postcards and other goodies to give away.

Looks like it's going to be a busy weekend. I'll report back later how we get on and will try to take a few photos too. Below is a link to a wordle that I created to put on our price lists.

Our wedding packa ges page has recently changed as we have added a new range of luxurious hand crafted albums from Booked Images. I'll post a photo of those soon.

It's been a busy time (as always at this time of year). Hope to post some photos from our summer weddings shortly too. In the meantime I have put in one of my recent faves of Charlene and Mark who got married in Aberdeen. A beautiful day filled with laughter. This shot at the top of the page was the bride's favourite. A lovely couple...

I have used this great presentation software for my educational consultancy work but thought it may work really well for a brief promotional show for our wedding photography work.

I think it works quite well but may depend on how fast your machine is as it includes photos...

pre wedding shoots

There are many advantages to having a pre-wedding photo shoot with a couple before the wedding day.

It provides a great opportunity to get to know the couple a bit more and to see how they interact with each other and with us. Every couple is different and the way they respond to each other during the shoot gives a good idea of the kinds of shots that will work on the big day. Some couples are playful, some dreamy and romantic, some are less tactile, but most reveal just how much in love they are...

It also provides a chance to find the best angles to use with each individual and helps to make the couples feel confident that we can make them look fabulous. Most couples start out being a little bit self conscious but after an hour or so they really relax and start to enjoy being photographed.

Doing the shoot at the venue allows us to run through the ceremony details and timings with the couple and plan where we will each be at various points to ensure that we cover the day as well as possible. We can check out the light and plan some of the formal shots... It also allows us to take shots of the venue if the weather is good in case the light or weather is bad on the day.

One of the most important things it provides is a chance to get to know each other a bit more which always makes the relationship work much better on the wedding day. We have quite a laugh during the sessions and find them invaluable to ensuring that we do our job well.

Glasgow Winter Gardens

What a beautiful name for a building to get married in. I thought it would be worth writing a bit about some of the venues we have worked in.

The Glasgow Winter Gardens are connected to the People's Palace which is now a social history museum. The museum has some fantastic photographs illustrating the story of the people and city of Glasgow from 1970 to the present day. The Winter Gardens is a Victorial glasshouse filled with tropical plants, benches to sit and a cafe.

As a wedding venue this is a fantastic place which, due to the windows, stays light until late in the summer months but also looks great when lit up in the evening. During the golden hour the early evening sun provides a wonderful orange glow to some of the bricks inside the building.

Here is another shot taken with my lomo fisheye film camera (a favourite camera that I'll do an entry about at a later date) that really does justice to the fabulous architecture.

Welcome to the new wedding photography blog

I thought it was time to have a separate blog about my wedding photography. So often I want to record what I've been doing and offer up a few early shots of a pre-wedding photography session or highlight a great venue.

Some people think I'm a bit mad taking on one of the most intense jobs you could try to do. The day is so important for the couple that you could really muck up if you failed to deliver. I am very
cautious about who I accept as clients though and always make sure that I feel I can deliver what they need. Tim, my partner, acts as my second photographer ans we focus on a contemporary and 'reportage' style which aims to capture the story of the day and ends up with less than the
usual forced poses and smiles.

I have just re-vamped our wedding website called ithadtobeyou. It has a few galleries with different styles of photography. I like working for clients who are open to a range of photography and processing styles.

This is what one of my favourite couples (featured in the photograph above) said:

'Well, for us, it just had to be Lou and Tim!
Our wedding was the happiest day of our lives, and we feel so lucky that Lou and Tim were there to record it. In fact, they were as much a part of the day as any of our guests. The sheer style and outstanding quality of their work speaks for itself. What may not be apparent from the photographs, but which was every bit as important to us, was the care and individual attention bestowed on us before, during and after our wedding day. Their work surpassed our expectations in every respect, and we have an album of wonderful images to cherish along with
our memories.'
